NAV 105 - Coastal Navigation
ASA Standards
You will demonstrate the navigational theory required to safely navigate a sailing vessel in coastal or inland waters. There is no Sailing Skills part to this Standard and practical application of this sailing knowledge is found in the Advanced Coastal Cruising Standard. This is a home study course.
ASA 106 - Advanced Coastal Cruising
ASA Standards
You will safely act as skipper and crew of a sailing vessel about 30 to 50 ft in length. This is a day and nighttime Standard in coastal and inland water, in any weather. The standard requires 20 nm by day and 20 nm by night, at least 48 hours of continuous sailing and at least one navigation watch and one watch as skipper. This Standard is typically offered as day of local sailing then a three day and two night passage from mainland Florida to the Florida Keys.
Cruising the ICW - price per itinerary
Occasionally, we will offer a three to five day course designed to familiarize students with extended cruising on the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW). The assumption will be that the boat will not normally travel at night, and the route may encounter current and tide planning, lock navigation, and coastal piloting with charts and GPS. There may be brief periods where the boat will be taken outside for certain segments of the voyage.
